PSRTI conducts third leg of SDG Seminar 3 for Region 8 provinces, March 14-17, 2022

The Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute (PSRTI) in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) successfully conducted its third batch of the Sustainable Development Goals Seminar 3: Statistical Data Management and Analysis for Evidence-Based Decision Making. The participants for this 4-day seminar came from the Local Government Units and select DILG Regional Office staff in the provinces of Eastern Samar and Leyte. This seminar was held virtually through Zoom from March 14-17, 2022.

The opening program featured the Welcome Remarks of the PSRTI Executive Director III Dr. Josefina V. Almeda. This was followed by the course overview and the introduction of the participants where they shared their course expectations.

Generally, the participants affirmed the learnings they got from the seminar. These were conveyed by the impressions coming from them, the messages given in the chat box, and notes they shared in the Padlet®. One said that, “This is the most organized workshop I have attended so far. The whole training was interesting. Having this kind of training is important to teach and upgrade the skills of local government units in a proper and easier way of handling data. I hope I can attend the more trainings organized by PSRTI.”

The seminar ended with a closing ceremony that included impressions from the participants and the resource person followed by a message from the DILG Region VIII Focal Person Ms. Lulu Avila, who represented Atty. Darwin N. Bibar, Assistant Regional Director of DILG Region VIII. The Closing Message was delivered by the Chief Statistical Specialist of the Training Division, Ms. Maria Praxedes R. Peña.

The SDG Seminar 3 is a training course that gives the participants knowledge and better understanding of the various key concepts in statistics. It tackles the different types of data collection that are applicable in the participants’ line of work paired with lectures on the importance of proper data storage and management. Presentations are packaged with data analysis techniques using summary measures and data presentation methods such as textual, tabular, and graphical. The topics include hands-on sessions using Microsoft Excel that equips participants with the skills and tools needed in performing simple data management, analysis, and presentation.
