PSRTI conducts the second batch of training with PSA Community Based Statistics Service

Two customized trainings on Selected Descriptive Statistics, Basic Survey Concepts, and Selected Classification Standards for the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) have been conducted virtually by the Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute (PSRTI) on February 17-19, 2021.

The training courses, given to two groups, generated a total of 70 participants. One group came from the Provincial Statistical Offices (PSO) and Regional Statistical Services Offices (RSSO) while the other group are Technical Staff of the Community-Based Statistics Service (CBSS) and other services of PSA.

Mr. George Ringo S. Manapat and Ms. Czarinne Antoinnette A. Antonio from the University of the Philippines School of Statistics are the Resource Persons for the Descriptive Statistics and Basic Survey part of the training while Mr. Rassel Jhun S. Embile, Mr. Emerson M. Aquino, and Ms. Monina C. Glumalid of the Philippine Statistics Authority handled the Classifications Standards, where the Philippine Standard Industrial Classifications or PSIC and other classifications were briefly discussed.

Participants learned visualizing, summarizing, descriptive, and exploratory techniques in handling their statistical data, which can aid in making evidence-based decisions. They also appreciated learning selected Philippine Classifications Standards (PSGC, PSOC, PSCED, PSIC), and where these data are sourced from.

The impressions of the participants mentioned their deep appreciation to the PSA for selecting them to take part in the course. They agreed that the training course will be most useful in their line of work, particularly in understanding the codes in the CBMS Questionnaire. The Resource Persons created an impact to the participants as they were lauded for explaining each topic as clearly as possible and to cover as many statistical tools – essential in the data that the PSA handles – given the shortened training days.

The series of trainings are still a part of the project on the Capacity Building for Selected Technical Staff of Local Government Units (LGUs) and the Community-Based Statistics Service and other services of the Philippine Statistics Authority.
