The Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute (PSRTI) successfully conducted the regular training course, through Zoom®, on Basic Statistics 1: Descriptive Statistics on October 5-8, 2020, with 19 participants attending from the Environmental Management Bureau and University of the Philippines Center for Integrative and Development Studies.
The training course on Basic Statistics 1: Descriptive Statistics capacitates the participants with the proper use of their basic knowledge in statistics in describing a given data. The training also provides the participants the knowledge in constructing a questionnaire, different methods of data collection, how to present data effectively and professionally, computing different summary measures using MS Excel and how to interpret the summary measures output. The training included discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on application on creating charts, tables, and computation and interpretation of the summary measures using MS Excel®.
Professor Francisco N. De Los Reyes from the University of the Philippines School of Statistics and Ms. Maria Josefa Rosario Y. Abanilla, a private consultant, are the resource persons in the four-day training program.
The impressions of the participants noted that the resource persons, Prof. De Los Reyes and Ms. Abanilla, are experts in the field of statistics and are very effective speakers in discussing the topics in ways that make it easily understandable. Participant impressions further commended them for being open in sharing their insights on how the statistical tools can be applied to the kind of work or tasks that the participants are undertaking.
