The SDG Seminar 2 series, with the theme “Effective Tools in Presenting and Analyzing SDG Data Amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic”, is done virtually on August 4-6, 2020, following the New Normal adapted by government agencies in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

>The last batch of delegates of Central Luzon attended the seminar alongside delegates from all the cities and lone municipality of the National Capital Region (NCR), as well as representatives from the DILG Regional Office III and NCR, and DILG field offices. Despite the ongoing Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine covering the whole of NCR during the seminar, both regions showed strong support to the activity with a combined attendance of over a hundred participants per day.

PSRTI Executive Director Josefina V. Almeda, PhD, opened the activity, while both DILG NCR Regional Director Maria Lourdes L. Agustin, CESO III, and DILG Region III Regional Director Julie J. Daquioag, PhD, CESO III provided the welcome remarks.
This was followed by the SDG Overview by Ms. Maria Praxedes R. Pena, Chief Statistical Specialist of the PSRTI Training Division. Afterwards, Ms. Jomel Jhele T. Sadsad, Senior Statistical Specialist of the PSRTI Training Division, gave a two-day lecture on Data Presentation Techniques. Also on the second day, Ms. Jazel Ann G. Ramos, Statistician I of the PSRTI Training Division, led the participants in a hands-on demonstration and exercise in the creation of charts using MS Excel.

The third day of the seminar was allocated for the lectures on Descriptive Statistics given by Ms. Pena, Training Division’s Chief Statistical Specialist, and Mr. Jose Pedro E. Cuartero, Project Development Officer, also of the PSRTI Training Division. For the afternoon session Ms. Charity V. Agbayani, Local Government Operations Officer V of the DILG Bureau of Local Government Development shared with the participants a lecture on Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) and updates on the current status of the CBMS. Finally, DILG Regional III Assistant Regional Director Jay E. Timberza, CESO V, formally ended the event by providing the closing remarks.

Some of the comments received from the seminar evaluation said that the training materials were user-friendly and easy to understand, and they appreciate the interactions between speakers and participants. Lectures served as a good review of their learnings from college, and the knowledge gained will be applicable to their line of work doing monitoring and evaluation. Participants also requested more SDG discussions, and they hope to have more seminars and trainings in addition to this seminar being provided. Over-all, they noted that PSRTI gave one of the more comprehensive and professional training activities that they have encountered.

For the year 2020, the Seminar 2 series aims to cover all provinces, cities, and municipalities under the Regions III (Central Luzon), VI (Western Visayas), VIII (Eastern Visayas), MiMaRoPa Region, and National Capital Region.
