PSA Personnel Attend CTC on Sampling Design and Estimation
Posted July 9, 2024
Fifty personnel from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) attended the Customized Training Course (CTC) PSA Module 3: Sampling Design and Estimation, held from May 20-24, 2024, at the PSA Headquarters in Quezon City. The participants were evenly divided into two batches: Batch 2, comprised of staff from the PSA Central Office, and Batch 4, composed of staff from PSA Field Offices. The resource persons for Batch 2 were Mr. George Manapat and Prof. Francisco Delos Reyes from the University of the Philippines School of Statistics (UPSS), while Prof. Roselle Collado from the University of the Philippines Los Baños Institute of Statistics (UPLB INSTAT) led Batch 4.

The course aimed to equip participants with the skills necessary for applying probability sampling methods to generate samples for statistical inference. It covered various sampling methods, variance approximation, and the framework of a probability sample survey. Targeted at technical staff involved in survey design and data analysis, the key topics included data collection methods, sample size determination, sample selection methods, and variance estimation.
Ms. Pinky Peña, Chief Statistical Specialist of the Training Division, delivered the closing remarks on behalf of PSRTI Executive Director III, Josefina V. Almeda, PhD, during the closing ceremonies. This course marks the second instance of CTCs on Sampling Design and Estimation conducted for PSA participants.
