The Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute (PSRTI) received positive feedback from the Davao Region after the successful conduct of the Sustainable Development Goals Seminar 3: Statistical Data Management and Analysis for Evidence-Based Decision Making. The seminar, in partnership with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Regional Office XI, and Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Regional Office XI, was held virtually via Zoom on April 5-8, 2022.
The four-day training had participants from the Local Government Units and Provincial Governments of Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Occidental, and Davao Oriental including representatives from the Davao regional offices of DILG, NEDA, and PSA.
PSRTI Chief Statistical Specialist of the Training Division, Ms. Maria Praxedes R. Peña, opened the seminar on behalf of the agency head Executive Director III Dr. Josefina V. Almeda. Her welcome message was followed by the introduction of the participants, course overview, and introduction of the resource persons and training coordinators.
The training course consisted of lecture videos, hands-on activities, discussions, and workshop exercises. The topics discussed revolved around data collection, management, analysis, and presentation, supplemented with an introduction to basic concepts in statistics and database management.
The seminar was capped off with a closing ceremony that included impressions from selected participants, and in turn, one of the resource persons also gave an impression. The feedback included the general opinion that the training was, “well organized no matter how broad the range of topics are…’’, that there was, “This clear organization of topics that greatly lifts the ease to digest and remember the topics being discussed. The resource speakers used simple words that are easily understood by the trainees. They are able to drive home the training in a very professional way but were also friendly at the same time, na parang tropa lang at hindi sila terror teachers.”
The overall consensus that… “The (training) team was courteous and accommodating, they provided a training venue wherein participants felt comfortable and relaxed in learning at their own pace and participating despite the varying levels of difficulty and knowledge amongst the topics and participants,’’ prevailed throughout the duration of the seminar.
A pre-recorded video message was given by DILG XI Regional Director Alex C. Roldan, CESO V wherein he commended all the organizers of the training, congratulated all the participants, and pushed for more effective and efficient delivery of functions and services offered by all the attending offices with the aid of the knowledge and skills gained in the seminar. Ms. Maria Praxedes R. Peña, who again represented the PSRTI Executive Director Dr. Josefina V. Almeda, ended the activity with her closing remarks and shared the agency plan of continued partnership with DILG, NEDA, and PSA in capacitating the LGUs in statistical data management and analysis for more evidence-based decision making outputs.
