The PSRTI was commissioned by the Philippine Statistics Authority in conducting an audit survey that will evaluate the data quality of the results of the Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES) 2018. FIES is a nationwide survey of households undertaken every three years. It is the main source of data on family income and expenditure, which include among others, levels of consumption by item of expenditure as well as sources of income in cash and in kind. The results of FIES are used for policy and planning purposes, thus examination of the quality of survey data is highly important. A sample of 8,913 households was selected and interviewed in the FIES 2018 round for the audit, using a 39-page audit questionnaire which was also developed purposely for the audit during field operations. The audit commenced in June 2018 until February 2019. It was spearheaded by Dr. Dennis S. Mapa and Prof. Michael Dominic Del Mundo of the UP Population Institute (UPPI).
