As part of its internal capability-building program for its staff and stakeholders, the PSRTI hosted an Empowerment Workshop on “Cultivating Effective Resource Persons.” Participants are eleven PSRTI staff and two instructors from the University of the Philippines School of Statistics. This workshop enabled the trainees to learn more about effective public speaking skills and was held from January 22 to 24, 2024, at the Ann Inez N. Gironella Training Room, PSRTI Office in Quezon City. Mr. Joseph Ayllon, a seasoned communications specialist and the President and CEO of Magis Communications Manila, served as the workshop’s Resource Person.

The workshop catered to individuals currently engaged in public speaking roles and those aspiring to refine their presentation skills. Its objective was to equip participants with enhanced capabilities to engage and captivate audiences effectively.
The workshop started with lectures and discussions aimed at mastering information organization, enhancing presentation style, and fostering confidence in public speaking. The subsequent two days were dedicated to personalized coaching sessions and culminated in participants delivering a 20-minute final presentation on an assigned topic.
During the Closing Ceremonies, participants lauded Mr. Ayllon for his expertise and effective teaching methodologies, which significantly enhanced their public speaking skills. One participant expressed feeling positively “overwhelmed” by the wealth of knowledge and practical techniques shared by the Resource Person within the short duration of the workshop. Another participant noted the workshop’s value in providing fresh perspectives on familiar topics, even for those already experienced in public speaking. Participants found the feedback and insights exchanged during the final presentations particularly beneficial, intending to apply them in both professional and personal contexts.
