The Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute (PSRTI) in coordination with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), continues the conduct of its Seminar 2 customized training course on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) under the Five-Year Research and Training Program for the Philippine Statistical System to Measure the Sustainable Development Goals.
The SDG Seminar 2 series, with the theme “Effective Tools in Presenting and Analyzing SDG Data Amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic”, is done virtually on July 28-30, 2020, following the New Normal adapted by government agencies in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Central Luzon continues its strong showing of support to the SDG cause with participants coming from the local government units of Nueva Ecija and Tarlac, and the continued support of the DILG Regional Office III, and their field offices from Nueva Ecija and Tarlac.
PSRTI Executive Director Josefina V. Almeda, PhD, welcomed the participants along with DILG Region III Regional Director Julie J. Daquioag, PhD, CESO III. This was followed by a lecture on Data Presentation Techniques given by Ms. Jomel Jhele T. Sadsad, Senior Statistical Specialist of the PSRTI Training Division. The same lecture continued to the second day of the seminar, after which participants were provided a demonstration and tutorial session on the creation of charts using MS Excel by Ms. Jazel Ann G. Ramos, Statistical Specialist I of the same Division.
Ms. Sadsad also served as the resource person on the third day of the seminar with a lecture on Descriptive Statistics, specifically on the Mean, Median, and Mode. This was followed by Mr. Jose Pedro E. Cuartero, Project Development Officer of the PSRTI Training Division, who lectured on Rates, Ratios, Proportions, Percentages and Percent Change. On the same day, participants were given a presentation on the current status of the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) by Ms. Charity V. Agbayani, Local Government Operations Officer V of the DILG Bureau of Local Government Development. Finally, the event was closed by DILG Regional III Assistant Regional Director Jay E. Timberza, CESO V who congratulated PSRTI and DILG on the successful conduct of the seminar.
Participants likewise expressed great interest and satisfaction with the training. Comments received commended PSRTI on the helpfulness of the lectures and how informative they were. They also appreciated the great presentation style, and how the speakers were enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and that they look forward to more seminars like the one provided.
The SDG Seminar 2: Effective Tools in Presenting and Analyzing SDG Data Amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic is the follow-through activity from last year’s SDG Seminar I series. For the year 2020, the Seminar 2 series aims to cover all provinces, cities, and municipalities under the Regions III (Central Luzon), VI (Western Visayas), VIII (Eastern Visayas), MiMaRoPa Region, and National Capital Region.
