The customized training course on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Seminar I for Palawan under the Five-Year Research and Training Program for the Philippine Statistical System to Measure the Sustainable Development Goals. On October 10, 2019, PSRTI, in cooperation with NEDA, PSA, and DILG, conducted the SDG appreciation seminar at the Legend Hotel, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. The seminar was attended by 36 participants from various Local Government Units and government agencies of Palawan.
Context setting of the SDG and the current Data Ecosystem was provided by Assistant National Statistician Wilma A. Guillen and Ms. Frances Anne A. Castillo, Statistical Specialist II, of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). This was followed by a lecture on Basic Concepts in Statistics provided by Ms. Jomel Jhele T. Sadsad, Senior Statistical Specialist of the PSRTI Training Division. Ms. Mechelle M. Viernes, Supervising Statistical Specialist of the PSA, introduced the computation of SDG indicators and mechanics of the workshop and led the open forum where participants were given the opportunity to bring up clarifications and questions regarding the SDG matrix and metadata development.
Alongside the SDG Seminar I, PSRTI provided a complimentary lecture on Methods of Effective Data Presentation on October 9, 2019, to 12 staff of the PSA Palawan Provincial Statistics Office, including their Chief Statistical Specialist, Ms. Maria Lalaine Rodriguez. Ms. Maria Praxedes R. Peña and Ms. Jazel Ann G. Ramos, Chief Statistical Specialist and Statistical Specialist I, respectively, served as resource persons.
