Senate staff attend Forecasting Techniques training at PSRTI

19 participants from the Senate Economic Planning Office (SEPO) and the office of Senator Win Gatchalian recently completed a Customized Training Course (CTC) on Basic and Advanced Forecasting Techniques. The five-day intensive program was held from June 17-21, 2024 at the Gervacio G. Selda Room at the PSRTI.

Conducted by Prof. John Carlo Daquis from the University of the Philippines Diliman School of Statistics (UPSS), the course aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of various methodologies in time series analysis and forecasting. It focused on identifying appropriate techniques for different scenarios and utilizing statistical software to enhance forecasting accuracy.

Participants praised the course’s structure, highlighting the logical progression of topics and the inclusion of hands-on exercises, which facilitated a better grasp of complex concepts. Adequate breaks were strategically scheduled to help attendees manage the course’s advanced content effectively.

The Closing Ceremony featured remarks from PSRTI Executive Director III, Dr. Josefina V. Almeda, and SEPO Executive Director, Mr. Merwin Salazar, who expressed their gratitude to the training team and participants for their dedication and collective effort. Certificates of Appreciation and tokens were awarded to the training team, led by Dr. Almeda, by SEPO staff headed by Executive Director Salazar.

The training is expected to empower Senate staff with enhanced skills in statistical interpretation and forecasting, ultimately supporting more informed decision-making in economic planning and legislative processes.

NEDA Secretary Karl Chua visits PSRTI

National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Secretary Karl Kendrick Chua paid a visit to the Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute (PSRTI) office at Timog Ave., Quezon City on June 6, 2022.

The EXECOM, headed by the PSRTI Executive Director III Dr. Josefina V. Almeda and Division Heads, Ms. Maria Praxedes Peña, Chief of the Training Division, Ms. Sabrina Romasoc of the Research Division, Ms. Lolita Oreo, Chief of the Finance and Administrative Division, and Ms. Geraldine Dela Peña of the Knowledge Management Division, led in welcoming the Secretary.

Sec. Chua visited the PSRTI offices housed at the 3rd and 7th floors of South Insula Condominium, personally greeting each personnel, who introduced themselves to the NEDA chief.

The rest of the visit included a meeting with the PSRTI management where agency accomplishments, issues, and concerns were discussed. Sec. Chua mentions that these discussion points will be part of the transition process once incoming NEDA Secretary Arsenio Balisacan assumes office.

The visit concluded with a quick photo session with Sec. Chua and all PSRTI staff.
